Fractions
In Year 4, fractions move on from naming simple parts to working with whole families of equivalent fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions. Children learn to see how halves, quarters and eighths relate, to place numbers like one and a half on a number line, and to add and subtract fractions that share the same bottom number. It is an important step that sets up the harder fraction work in Years 5 and 6, so steady practice here pays off later.
Practise Fractions
Have a guess, even if you're not sure. Get one wrong and we'll show you why, so every miss is a chance to learn.
Timed practice
The same practice, just with a gentle clock. Pick a length and see how many you can answer.
Each quiz is multiple choice and builds in small steps, with clear pictures and number lines where they help your child see what is going on. Questions cover one idea at a time, from spotting equivalent fractions to finding a fraction of an amount. When an answer is wrong, your child gets a gentle hint rather than a red cross, so they can think again and carry on without losing heart.
