A brighter way to learn

Year 4

Number and Place Value

In Year 4 your child moves up to four-digit numbers, learning to read them, say what each digit is worth, and put them in order. They also count in steps of 6, 7, 9, 25 and 1000, round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000, and find 1000 more or less than a number. This is the place value groundwork that everything else in the curriculum, from column addition to working with money and measures, rests on.

Practise Number and Place Value

Have a guess, even if you're not sure. Get one wrong and we'll show you why, so every miss is a chance to learn.

Timed practice

The same practice, just with a gentle clock. Pick a length and see how many you can answer.

Each quiz works through these ideas in small steps, starting gently and building up. Where it helps, numbers are shown on a clear number line so your child can see where a value sits and which multiple of 100 or 1000 it is nearest to. If they pick the wrong answer, they get a calm hint that nudges them towards the right thinking rather than just marking it wrong.

BrightWren is completely free, with no account and no sign-up. It works on any phone, tablet or computer, so your child can practise at the kitchen table or on the go whenever suits you.
